Volkswagen Polo R WRC by Wimmer RS
The German aftermarket specialists at Wimmer RS aren’t all that popular, but that’s not what this is about. Their most recent project includes the development of a new power-kit for the Volkswagen Polo R WRC. The standard version of said vehicle – if we could call it that – is powered by a 2.0-liter TSI turbocharged engine. As such, the street-legal vehicle benefits from 220 PS and 350 Nm of torque.
Wimmer’s new power package enables the same engine to output 420 hp (309 kW) and 480 lb-ft of torque, which is about double as originally intended. The VW Polo R WRC now shows off an upgraded turbocharger, a more capable air intake system, a 6-bar fuel pump, a modified high-pressure pump, a Y-pipe with sport catalytic converter, along with a stainless steel sports exhaust – with valve control. Let’s not forget about the specialist’s new inter-cooler, and re-programmed ECU.
Wimmer will charge VW Polo R WRC owners 10,200 EUR for their performance package, which means a cool little car capable of reaching a top speed of 280 km/h. Also part of the offering are high-performance K&N air filter, a set of 17-inch 0.Z. alloys and an adjustable KW-coilover suspension. Driving this baby on mountain roads should be one hell of an experience!
