Audi A8 L Extended
I waited until Friday evening to talk about this unique project, since it’s ideal for taking you on a night on the town. Designed and built for a picky European customer, the Audi A8 L Extended is based on the company’s flagship sedan and brings along all its popular and highly appreciated features – in a king-size format. Measuring 6.36 meters (20.9 ft) long and riding on a 4.22-meter (13.8 ft) wheelbase, this limo was constructed almost entirely from aluminum. Audi made use of an Audi Space Frame design and reworked the entire body, from the A-pillar and back, with extended side sills and center tunnel manufactured by extruded aluminum sections.
Also worth mentioning is that the roof incorporates additional aluminum profiled tubes and cross-braces, to keep passengers safe at all times, while a double rear bulkhead separates the passenger compartment from the boot. A 2.40-meter (7.9 ft) glass panel in the roof skin will probably be very appreciated, while the lighting units incorporate small side marker lights, keeping in line with regulations for vehicles of this length.
On the inside, the Audi A8 L will accommodate up to six passengers in complete comfort and luxury. Valcona leather upholstery, finished in velvet beige, makes this a refined cabin to be riding in; the second and third rows have electrically adjustable individual seats, and the last row features a continuous center console, a cool box and a Rear Seat Entertainment display to keep everyone entertained.
Weighing in at 2.418 kg (5,331 lbs), the Audi A8 L Extended has been equipped with a 3.0-liter TFSI petrol engine to take care of the smooth ride; good for around 310 PS (306 hp) and 440 Nm (325 pound-feet) of torque, the engine will send its power to the quattro permanent AWD system through an 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox. The larger proportions required an upgraded braking system, while the 15-spoke 19-inch alloys finish off what could easily be considered a discreet, yet incredibly stylish design. I’m not sure why this is relevant, but the special Audi will do 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.1 seconds and max out at 250 km/h (155 mph). Have fun!
