2017 Geneva Motor Show – Land Rover Discovery Project Hero Concept
The Land Rover Discovery Project Hero Concept is not really what you think – or what I imagined, specifically an action-ready vehicle meant for guys like Jason Statham while he saves the world and gets the girl. Oh no, this project was meant to aid the Austrian Red Cross in its efforts to reduce disaster response times and possibly save more lives than per usual.
Project Hero is the result of vivid imagination and preoccupation of the company’s Special Vehicle Operations, with the vehicle already scheduled for throughout testing starting this June. This thing packs its own drone, resting on the roof and complemented by a landing system with a self-centering and magnetic retention technology. This means that the drone will safely land on the SUV as both of them are on the move.
Based on the 3.0-liter TD6 version, Project Hero has the drone sending in live footage to Red Cross emergency response teams – this means extra info for when intervention is required. Furthermore, a comprehensive radio kit has also been implemented in the unique Discovery to provide better communication – this isn’t what I had in mind when I was waiting on the Geneva Motor Show to open its doors, but it’s still cool.
The SUV has also been equipped with extra tables that form a working space, not to mention the heavy duty sliding floor at the rear, lockable stowage compartments, 6 USB ports and 2 x 12v sockets. The extra LED lighting will allow the driver to reach the desired location even if the darkest of situations. Check it out!
