2016 New York Motor Show – 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack
Volkswagen’s reputation has taken a huge hit, due to the diesel emissions scandal. I have to admit, I feel disappointed; I’ve been a fan of the German car manufacturer for years, and to find out we’ve all been lied to for the sole purpose of making money makes me wonder about the company’s next step – and our next decision about the company’s products, especially once you remember the VW group owns some popular and big companies.
However, the 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack has got my full attention. The gorgeous vehicle might stand a chance in reviving the brand’s legacy in the US, and possibly dethrone the Subaru Outback as the go-to all-wheel drive wagon. To put it simply, the Alltrack is a Golf SportWagen with VW’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system; I guess that’s like tasting the best of both worlds.
But, there’s more to it than that; the 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack features an extra inch of ground clearance over the standard wagon, while the bodywork looks somewhat tougher. Under the hood, the 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine – the same one powering up the Golf SportWagen – develops 170 hp and 199 pound-feet of torque here.
Volkswagen’s offering includes either a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox or a six-speed manual, not to mention an Off-Road Mode – responsible for hill descent control and the traction control. The 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack will hit US dealers this fall, just in time for the bad traffic conditions. I,m not sure that red is the best color option, but other than that, I want one!
