1969 Chevrolet Camaro by Westech Automotive
Although Carl Schultz was happy to own a ’69 Camaro, properly restored and with a classic drivetrain, he felt the need for speed. As such, new power and suspension were first things to come to mind, which is why he got in contact with people at Westech Automotive to work their magic on the complete Camaro.
After much discussion, it was decided that a new GM Performance LSX 454 engine was the best of choices; developing 620 hp, the engine was equipped with a FAST LS intake with Big Mouth fuel injection inlet, to make sure the growl matches the power delivery. Furthermore, a Tremec TKO 600 five-speed gearbox was added to the package, along with a heavy-duty clutch and strong/lightweight driveshaft to handle the massive power figures.
Carl, owner of Five Star Race Car Bodies, knew what he wanted; this is why further choices included a throttle-by-cable fuel injection system, spark plug coil packs mounted by the oil pan to hide all the wiring and stainless steel tubing to make the engine compartment sparkle.
With great power, comes great responsibility, which meant the suspension system needed an overhaul; the team called on Heidts Hot Rods and Muscle Cars to install a Heidts four-link suspension at the back, while the front now features the Heidts Pro-G subframe featuring rack-and-pinion steering for those much appreciated driving dynamics.
Please note the massive Wilwood disc brake rotors, complemented by six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers, to make sure you stop in time. Finishing off the Camaro, the original Camaro Red exterior now benefits from SS-style graphics and the original “350” cid engine emblems. Gotta love it!
