1959 Chang Jiang CJ750 by Marlon Motorcycles
Marlon Motorcycles turned up at Bike Shed London 2016 with a brace of bikes, one of which was this 1959 Chang Jiang CJ750. The Chang Jiang is mechanically similar to a Ural or Dnepr, an interesting motorcycle drsigned to spend its service crossing in some of the most inhospitable terrain possible during WW2. Obviously, upon purchasing the bike, the shop went on to strip it down and start working on the vision they had in mind.
The goal was to build a ride with a vintage feel patina, which is why the first move was to acquire as many secondhand parts. Everything else had to be fabricated, with the new components aged to make sure they blend in with the overall vibe of the bike. Sold as a runner, this bike has also received a challenging full engine rebuild – no instructions or parts available. There were also a few extras added onto the bike, including the vintage brass car horn and the pocket watch set into the tank. One thing’s for sure: this bike will definitely stand out of any crowd.
